Kaohsiung Green Park is a huge new lawn park beside Chengcing Lake that opened at the end of 2025 — great for strolling, picnics, jogging, letting the kids burn off energy, taking photos and flying kites, with a spacious, comfortable setting full of natural life. The wide lawns and original trees have been kept fully intact, making it ideal for families and couples looking to unwind, but note that pets are currently NOT allowed, so please don't bring your dogs or other pets here. Also, since there aren't that many trees overall, it will definitely be too hot in summer or around midday — this is really more of an autumn/winter or late-afternoon destination.
There's no admission fee and parking is easy — it's one of the few large natural parks in urban Kaohsiung and a great weekend getaway spot.

Kaohsiung Green Park: A Great Spot for Picnics, Walks and Family Fun

Located beside Chengcing Lake, Kaohsiung Green Park (果嶺自然公園) was originally a piece of city-owned land leased out to a private operator and run as a golf course. For decades, this green expanse was managed by the local Chen family as a members-only club, off-limits to the general public. When the lease recently expired, the Kaohsiung City Government officially took the land back and decided to redevelop the once-closed golf course into an open leisure park, free for everyone to enjoy.

The green lawns that people could once only admire from outside the fence are now a comfortable natural space where anyone can stroll, exercise, bring the kids and take photos. The government kept the original trees and sweeping lawns, turning this into a rare green oasis in the city — and a symbol of public space being returned to the people. Kaohsiung Green Park isn't just a new attraction; it's a city story about going from closed-off to shared.

Kaohsiung Green Park | How to Get There

Kaohsiung Green Park is actually within the Kaohsiung urban area — you can come by car, scooter or bus, and for those who enjoy a slower pace of life there's even a U-Bike station for renting and returning bikes. One thing to note: the Kaohsiung MRT does not reach here.

Kaohsiung Green Park | The Preserved Golf-Course Landscape

Kaohsiung Green Park used to be a golf course, and the city government has faithfully preserved its original look — the turf inside is beautifully maintained, and the putting greens in particular require special care to stay smooth. A few rules to keep in mind: the flatter, manicured lawns around the greens are off-limits for picnicking or lying down, to protect the turf. The park also doesn't allow pets or golf practice, so please follow the park rules when you visit.
