Ichigen Ramen, all the way from Sapporo, Hokkaido, has planted its flag in Kaohsiung — and its first branch here is inside Shinhamacho Cuisine Club, run by the Grand Hi-Lai Group. If you love ramen, this is a great stop on your way to catch the ferry to Cijin.

Ichigen Ramen Shinhamacho Branch|Hokkaido's Popular Shrimp Broth Ramen
Ichigen Ramen is both famous and popular, but since its Shinhamacho Cuisine Club location is set up inside a food court, you'll need to find your own seat, and on weekends there can be a bit of a wait. Based on my own experience striking out three times on both weekdays and weekends, they're usually sold out by 6-7pm. If you're making a special trip to eat here, I'd recommend coming for lunch or early evening to order ahead of the rush.

Ichigen Ramen — Location and Transport
For directions and transport info for Shinhamacho Cuisine Club (Google Maps link), check out my other post on Shinhamacho Cuisine Club (Chinese), which covers the location and transport in detail. Basically, it's within a 10-minute walk from Hamasen MRT Station Exit 1, the Hamasen Light Rail Station, or the Gushan Ferry Station bus stop. It's also easily reached by car, scooter, or bicycle — transport options are varied and convenient.

Ichigen Ramen Menu
The menu isn't huge — it's mainly shrimp broth ramen, with a different flavor offered each day. If you want to try a different flavor, you'll need to come back at another time. They also have Ichigen char siu rice and shrimp-flavored pot stickers, and you can add extra char siu or a soft-boiled egg.

Dining Experience
This time we tried the salt-flavored shrimp broth ramen — the soup was incredibly rich, and the noodles were wonderfully springy and delicious. But just a small gripe: the char siu was a bit ordinary, and there was only one slice, plus half a soft-boiled egg, along with a bit of shrimp paste and chopped scallions. Overall it felt a little thin and not quite filling enough.
The char siu rice was excellent and worth ordering — the shrimp-flavored pot stickers really did have a rich shrimp paste flavor, which made for quite a unique taste.
