Opened in March 2025 next to the Gushan Ferry Pier in Kaohsiung, Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub (新濱町海洋廚房) is run by Hi-Lai's property management team, which revitalized the former Gushan Fish Market — preserving its Showa-era character while blending in a modern island vibe. The grounds are decorated with tropical plants, cactus landscaping, rattan chairs, boulders, and a giant heart-shaped landmark called the "Tree of Love", creating a romantic seaside dining atmosphere that's perfect for photos whether you come by day or at sunset.

Compared to its predecessor, the Gushan Fish Market, I think Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub benefits hugely from the Hi-Lai Group's big-name branding, which draws crowds on its own, plus the well-known vendors it brought in that make people curious to visit. The large open dining areas also encourage visitors to linger and eat, creating a gathering effect — so it's no surprise foot traffic is way up compared to the old fish market.

Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub: Kaohsiung's Hottest New Spot in 2025

When you visit Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub, you can easily add nearby stops like Pier-2 and KW2 (棧貳庫), or venture a bit further to the Great Harbor Bridge and Glory Pier. Every kind of transport works well here, but I recommend riding a YouBike — it's an easy way to hop between sights with zero parking worries. The Gushan Ferry Pier is right next door, so you can take the ferry over to Cijin to visit the Kaohsiung Lighthouse, Cijin Old Street, and Cijin Beach. All in all, Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub sits right at the center of all these attractions (Google Maps link), making it a great stop for a stroll, photos, and a meal.

Location & How to Get There

The location isn't super convenient, but thankfully it's easy to reach by public transport. Here are your options:

  • MRT Hamasen Station, Exit 1 — about a 7-minute walk.
  • Light Rail Hamasen Station — about a 9-minute walk.
  • Take a bus (check Google Maps) to the Gushan Ferry Station stop.
  • YouBike — several docking stations nearby.
  • The grounds offer car and scooter parking, but car spaces are limited — on weekends you may not get a spot and might have to park at a lot further away.
  • If you're planning to visit KW2 as well, you can walk over along Jiexing 1st Street and the Gushan Fishing Harbor, checking out the painted houses along the way.

The on-site parking lot has about 30 spaces, which isn't much given the weekend crowds.

There's plenty of scooter parking though, and if the lot fills up you can still park on the street outside.

Indoor & Outdoor Areas

Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub is split into indoor and outdoor zones. The outdoor zone features seaside views and art installations, with outdoor canopies and stylish round pod seating where you can take in the Kaohsiung harbor scenery — the sunsets in the early evening are gorgeous. It's great for dining, strolling, and dates.

The indoor zone is a food court hosting several well-known food and beverage brands, with a large seating area for resting and dining. It's spacious and bright, with a real holiday vibe. Seating doesn't look plentiful, but turnover is quite fast — wait a moment and you'll find a table.

Vendor Guide (2025.05)

There are about 15 vendors here, including quite a few well-known names and specialty shops — compared to the old Gushan Fish Market, the food really is a big step up.

Sapporo Ichigen Ramen

A popular ramen shop from Sapporo, Hokkaido, famous for its shrimp broth — a rich shrimp flavor blended with tonkotsu pork-bone soup for layers of deliciousness. House-made noodles come topped with chashu pork and a soft-boiled egg, and the aroma is irresistible — a must-visit for ramen fans. Their Ichigen chashu rice and shrimp gyoza are also great, so I recommend trying those too. Just note they can sell out if you arrive too late — when I went at just past 7pm on a weekend, everything was already sold out, so come early.

⭐JAPAN BBQ

Taiwan's first outpost of a Tokyo-based Japanese BBQ brand, operating here under the JAPAN BBQ name. It features popular Japanese foods from the Lopia supermarket chain, Japanese A5 wagyu, and all kinds of fresh seafood — lobster, Hokkaido scallops, oysters, king crab and more — grilled on smokeless BBQ tables. Japanese sake and other drinks are available too, making it great for group dining and long chats.

⭐Bistro Club 1883

Bistro Club 1883 (打水灣酒樓) specializes in creative East-meets-West cuisine, combining local ingredients with Kaohsiung's harbor-city culture. Think "soft-shell crab gua bao" — the traditional steamed bun snack paired with crispy soft-shell crab — or the "Dashuiwan tilapia taco", Taiwanese tilapia on a Mexican tortilla. Everything looks delicious, though with creative dishes like these, taste is always a matter of personal preference.

Otemae Teppanyaki

"Otemae" refers to the chef cooking right in front of the guests, hands flying as dishes are prepared on the spot. This is upscale Japanese teppanyaki combining griddle cooking with refined plating — chefs cook before your eyes for a feast of both sight and taste. With carefully sourced ingredients, it suits celebrations, dates and other special occasions. Prices run higher, around NT$400-600 per person.

Moon Cafe (月鯉灣咖啡廳)

The only vendor stationed in the outdoor area, serving coffee, sparkling drinks, cocktails, desserts and more. Sitting outside with a sea breeze, ocean views and a drink in hand is wonderfully relaxing. Daytime in summer can get a bit hot outdoors, but coming in the early evening is really lovely.

CREMIA Ice Cream

A premium soft-serve brand from Japan, famous for its high cream and milk-fat content that delivers intense milky flavor and silky smoothness. The golden ratio of milk to fresh cream is paired with a langue de chat cookie cone — the same crispy wafer used in "Shiroi Koibito" cookies. A must-try for dessert lovers. At NT$150 a cone it's a refined little treat, and snapping photos at the photo wall next door adds a real sense of occasion!
